Americas leading organization for the promotion and advocacy of flossing The National Flossing Council (NFC) has urged people not to give up on floss, after exposing grave inaccuracies in two recent dental review articles.
The articles made the claim that only professional flossing effectively reduced cavities, but a NFC inquiry uncovered that the flossers were not professionals, but rather mothers who had received some simple instructions about proper flossing.
NFC President, Dr Armand Lione, who led investigations into the research, has released a white paper on the topic exposing the inaccurate terms used in the dental review papers and re-confirming the benefits of daily flossing.
We hope this paper helps flossers understand they can reduce their risk of getting cavities by flossing without depending on so-called 'professionals,' Dr Lione said.
When it comes to flossing, the limited evidence we have doesnt really say anything about professional flossing, but just says flossing can reduce cavities, so I say, Floss on!
November 25 is National Flossing Day.
As part of National Flossing Day celebrations, the National Flossing Council has also announced the winner of the 2010-11 Flossies Bergere Video Contest. The grand prize, a Flossing Can Can Barbie, atop the Eifel Tower, is being awarded to Shelli Saraga of Boynton Beach, FL for her entry, Flossies Bergere! Celebrate National Flossing Day!, which can be seen on youtube.
Dr. Lione commented, Shelli's excellent video and the work of the others who entered the Video Challenge are sure to Help Spread Peace of Mouth!
